The 291 aluminium eaves beam is an aluminium support structure designed for use when installing structural glazing bar systems, such as the P227, P280, P288 and the P600.
The 291 eaves beam is fitted at the eaves (bottom) end of a roof slope, usually onto a post, wall or suitable support and its simple design enables glazing bars to be positioned at a pitch ranging between 5° to 25°.
When used with a typical light-weight polycarbonate glazing system, the 291 eaves beam is capable of spanning 3m between supports. In certain situations, it can be reinforced to span up to 4m.
The 291 eaves beam is fixed at the eaves end (bottom) of a roof slope. The fixings to be used are dependent on the structure onto which you are fixing the eaves beam. If installed correctly, the 291 eaves beam will look like a small letter ‘p’ shape when viewed from the side with fixing made through the downturned leg.
End plates (ref. 291EP) are available separately and are fitted to the ends of the 291 eaves beam using the fixing screws supplied with the end plate.
The base bar for the chosen glazing bar system is then screwed to the 291 eaves beam and the glazing sheet installed as per the fixing instructions available for that bar system.
A gap will be created between the top of the eaves beam and the underside of the glazing sheet due to the height of the chosen glazing bar system's base bar. On an open canopy, such as a car port, this is not an issue, however, on a structure with closed sides such as a conservatory, unless this gap is filled, rain, dirt, insects will be allowed in. We recommend installing an eaves filler to fill this gap if required.
A wall plate (Ref. 290) can also be supplied to fit at the ridge (top) end of a roof slope.
