The 290 wall plate is an aluminium support structure designed for use when installing structural glazing bar systems, such as the P227, P280, P288 and the P600.
The 290 wall plate is fitted at the ridge (top) end of a roof slope, usually onto a wall or suitable structure and its simple design enables glazing bars to be positioned at a pitch ranging between 5° to 25°.
The leg of the 290 wall plate is fixed to the wall by drilling through the two locating grooves. The type of fixing to be used is dependent upon the substrate to which the wall plate is being fixed. Fixings should be installed in a zigzag pattern i.e. use a fixing in the top groove then move along 300mm and fix in the lower groove. Keep repeating this pattern to create a ‘W’ pattern with the screws. The first fixing should be no more than 125mm from the side of the wall plate.
If installed correctly, the 290 wall plate will look like a small letter ‘b’ shape when viewed from the side.
The base bar for the chosen glazing bar system is then screwed to the 290 wall plate and the glazing sheet installed as per the fixing instructions available for each individual glazing bar system.
End plates (ref. 290EP) are available separately and are fitted to the ends of the 290 wall plate using the fixing screws supplied with the end plate. The top of the finished glazing should be weathered using a lead or butyl flashing.
An eaves beam (Ref. 291) can also be supplied to fit at the lower end of a roof.
